I decided to build a new quad-core DAW this past spring since my machine was 5 years old and I wanted to upgrade for some gaming stuff. It's funny because I felt the same way with my P4 3.0Ghz with 2GB RAM. But it’s doesn’t even meet the min spec to run a plugin!! If I just load a patch, every time I play a note, the cpu hits 100%! I can't wait to see what happens with a quad core and 4gig ram – much much better I hope!įunny, but when I bought the last motherboard and cpu, I thought that I probably never have to upgrade again, unless I got into games. I’m waiting on the motherboard and cpu, so I’m currently using the old machine – intel Celeron 2.5 and 2gig ram. It shows what can be done when the power of real, unusual samples is combined with a powerful, multi-approach synthesis engine. I have done a reinstall of all my software on new disks, including Omnisphere. I’m in the process of upgrading my machine. I know I get long loading times when I open a project containing Kontakt2 or Battery 2 which I believe is tied to the way samples are loaded, especially on a ram starved machine like mine (1 gig, as that's all it'll take). Part of this sounds like an extreme form of DFD (NI's direct-from-disk) loading scheme coupled with not loading the samples until you play each one. I'm going to report this to Spectrasonics, but I'm just curious to know if any of you Sonar users are also experiencing this, have any solutions, workarounds, etc. (Thats why you dont often see Omnisphere vs. ![]() 2) Omnisphere is like a ROMpler in that it often combines samples with synthesis, but the resulting sound is rarely like that of a ROMpler. I'm also finding that, if I'm using Omnisphere in muliti-timbral mode (i.e., 3-4 sounds/tracks per instance), the load time goes up and I experience crashes if I don't wait a minute or so and test each sound manually before allowing the project to play. Heres how Id put it: 1) Omnisphere is a synth, but it doesnt always create synth sounds using pure synthesis. My load time is about 30 seconds, give or take. I'm not sure how many of you have been following the kvr.com thread regarding this, but many people (myself included) are experiencing very long load times for projects using Omnisphere. ![]()
